American Rifle Company: New Favorite!

American Rifle Company is quickly becoming one of my favorite companies. They aren’t afraid to do things completely different in the industry.

The barreled action in the photo probably looks familiar. It used to be in a Bergara HMR stock – it’s my personal rifle chambered in 22 Creedmoor. I pulled it from the HMR and dropped it into the American Rifle Company Xylo chassis.

First things first when it comes to a stock or chassis for me:

  • It can’t have a bar/tube running over my thumb. Not interested. I’ve shot the old-school way too many years.
  • The cheek weld has to be adjustable. With thermals, night vision, and large-objective scopes, this is no longer optional – it’s a must.
  • ARCA is clearly here to stay. I don’t think we need a full ARCA rail on the forearm, but we definitely need it for the amazing modern tripods on the market. This chassis has a full ARCA forearm.

The wood grip is big (which I like!) and cut deep at the back, so the palm of my thumb doesn’t collect unwanted pressure.

AW mags? Absolutely. The only way to run .308/ Creedmoor cases.

Hopefully before long we’ll get the chance to chase some mutts with it.

The Omni Adjustable Rigid Reamer Holder

Barrel Runout, Reamer Alignment & Why Holder Design Matters

When chambering a rifle barrel, the first step is dialing out both types of runout:

Radial Runout – Bore centerline offset from the spindle axis.

Angular Runout – Bore tilted relative to the spindle axis.

Correcting both ensures the bore is centered and parallel to spindle rotation.

After the Barrel’s True – The Reamer Holder Matters
Most floating holders only compensate radially, not angularly, and can droop during use-causing misalignment, chatter, scratches, or oversized chambers.

From Drews Precision, the Omni Adjustable Rigid Reamer Holder is not a floppy floating tool. It’s rigid; adjustable both radially in X and Y and angularly in all directions to remove any tilt or misalignment from collets or tool post to adjust the reamer dead true to the spindle.

Advantages:

Rigid stability prevents chatter.
Micro adjustable in all planes to remove angular and radial run out for exact alignment.

No side-load = no oversized chambers.

Rigid means no droop = no scratches or galling.

Repeatable, consistent results.

Bottom line: Eliminate runout in the barrel, align the reamer perfectly, and cut with zero flex.
The Omni Adjustable Rigid Reamer Holder delivers chatter-free, concentric chambers.

The Omni Adjustable Rigid Reamer Holder was designed to be held by the carriage of a lathe, not the tail stock. The carriage is much more accurate than the tail stock. It you try and use this in the tail stock, you will never be able to get it adjusted due to the tail stocks non-repeatability and sag that they are plagued with. If you do try this, you will find out why you should not be using your tail stock to cut chambers.

Included is the indication jig to indicate the reamer to the spindle bore while it’s being held in the Omni Adjustable Rigid Reamer Holder. The two Interapid .0001/10th indicators are not included.

Starting closest to the Omni Adjustable Rigid Reamer Holder collet, make your X and Y adjustments to remove all the runout on the right-hand indicator.

Once this is accomplished, use the angular adjustments to indicate the tip of the reamer, where the pilot is located, to remove all angular runout. Then go back to the right-hand gauge, make your X and Y adjustments as it could have changed with the angular adjustments.

Note: The first time you set this up, it will take multiple adjustments to get the reamer holder true to your spindle. Subsequent set-ups will only require fine adjustments after the initial setup.

Small Frame AR 10: 22 Creedmoor

Thank you for your interest in the small-frame AR-10 chambered in 22 Creedmoor.

I recently spoke with Jard Inc. out of lowa and learned that they are producing a proprietary small-frame AR-10 platform.

The upper, lower, bolt, and barrel extension are all unique to Jard’s design.

After a lengthy conversation with them, I was excited to hear that in their testing, factory-loaded ammo did not cause tip deformation-something many AR-10 Creedmoors on the market struggle with.

That’s a big deal, especially for those who want to shoot 22 Creedmoor but don’t want to lug around the full weight of a standard AR-10 when hunting.
According to Jard, the estimated finished weight of the rifle is right around 7 Ibs, which is very respectable for this configuration.

One area I plan to optimize is the buffer spring and gas system, particularly to tune it for clean, reliable suppressed shooting. This will take some trial and error, but it’s likely we’ll run a +3 or +4 length gas system.

The goal is to extend dwell time, helping reduce the issues high-pressure rounds face-specifically when the chamber is still under pressure as the spent round is being extracted.

We plan to make this platform run reliably with factory ammo in the 70-80 grain projectile range. One receiver set is already on the way for testing.

Here’s what we know so far about pricing:

Receiver set: $850
Barrels: Estimated around $650

Most other components are AR-15 compatible, except the buffer tube. With all the options available for handguards, triggers, etc., the final cost of a complete build will vary.

Once we complete and validate our test build, we’ll finalize pricing and explore doing a group order for the first batch.
